It’s OKAY to NOT be OKAY
Several months ago a friend shared a portion of a poem by Donna Ashworth. I can’t even remember which poem it was, but it spured me to ask for Donna’s book of poetry for my birthday. “To the women: words to live by” is chalk full of short and inspiring words for yourself and the women in your life. This portion of Donna’s poem called “TO OUR DAUGHTERS” struck me as so important to remind ourselves of every day that I painted it to hang in my home as a constant reminder.
“It’s okay to not be okay. It is even better to talk about it. Darkness cannot shine through light, but light can shine through darkness. You can be amazing and admired whilst admitting your weaknesses and discussing your fears and anxieties.”
Do you believe that it’s okay to show your weaknesses? Deep down, do you honestly believe that you can still be amazing while talking about what you are afraid of and what causes anxiety in your life? Do you have friendships that foster these authentic interactions? Do you have space and freedom to talk to a therapist about the darkness that needs you to speak light to?
Let’s all work to shine light into the darkness of our fears and anxieties that try to convince us that we are not okay.
